PROPERTIES AND RATIONALE FOR THE COMPOSITION

SPECIFIC TM CKW-HY Heart & Kidney Support Hydrolysed has uniquely high levels of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA derived from fish oil. In dogs with cardiac disease, EPA can help support maintenance of lean body mass and appetite, normal cardiac rhythm, blood pressure and platelet aggregation. In dogs with kidney failure, omega-3 fatty acids can help slow down the progression of kidney failure. A restricted content of phosphorus is essential to reduce hyperphosphataemia and to slow down the progression of kidney insufficiency. The reduced content of protein in combination with protein of high biological value reduce azotemia in dogs with renal failure. In dogs with liver failure, it reduces the likelihood of hyperammonaemia and possible hepatic encephalopathy. The high biological value of the proteins supplies a sufficient amount of essential amino acids to the dog. In congestive heart failure, sodium excretion is reduced as part of the compensatory response to the reduced cardiac output, and consequently sodium and water retention occurs. The reduced sodium level helps break the vicious circle of water retention. This is essential for kidney, liver and heart patients. With highly digestible hydrolysed salmon protein to reduce the amount of undigested protein in the colon and thus lower the microbial production of uremic toxins and toxin precursors . Highly digestible hydrolysed protein can help to reduce dysbiosis and lower plasma levels of uremic toxins, which can help to slow down progression of renal insufficiency. In addition, the low allergenicity can provide nutritional support in cases of chronic renal, cardiac or hepatic insufficiency with concurrent ingredient or nutrient intolerances. With fermentable fibres (beet pulp and FOS) and AuraGuard (containing natural polyphenols) for a healthy gut microbiome and intestinal barrier integrity to support the gut-kidney axis.
