£ The restricted protein level reduces the urinary concentrations of oxalate, cystine and urate. Together with the alkaline urine pH, this discourages precipitation of urinary calcium oxalate, cystine and urate crystals and supports a healthy urinary tract. Added potassium citrate helps keep calcium in solution. L-carnitine and taurine have been added to the diet to support the heart muscle function. £ SPECIFIC TM CKW Heart & Kidney Support contains zeolite , which can bind ammonium and thereby help reduce uremia in dogs with renal failure and hyperammonaemia in dogs with liver failure. £ The diet has high levels of water soluble vitamins in order to compensate for increased urinary losses caused by the use of diuretics in heart patients. £ Zinc is a cofactor in the enzymatic conversion of ammonia to urea and can reduce catabolism of protein in muscles. The increased level of zinc in SPECIFIC TM CKW Heart & Kidney Support can contribute to the reduction of hyperammonaemia in liver patients. £ The copper content in SPECIFIC TM CKW Heart & Kidney Support is moderately reduced because copper excretion may be compromised in patients with liver diseases. £ The exceptional palatability of SPECIFIC TM CKW Heart & Kidney Support maximises the chance of the nutritional requirements being met, even if the patient has a poor appetite.
